Guelph Soccer Announces New Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion (EDI) Advisory Council

Guelph Soccer is pleased to announce the creation of our new Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Advisory Council. We are currently seeking committee members willing to uphold a culture of inclusion for every individual within the Guelph Soccer community.

Guelph Soccer recognizes the importance of fostering an environment where every player, coach, referee, and staff member is respected and included. The club acknowledges the various impacts systemic oppression has on athletics and sports and seeks to mitigate said barriers to create opportunities for every individual who participates within the organization. A culture of inclusion ensures that every individual feels a sense of belonging and creates an environment that supports engagement and well-being of everyone.

The EDI Advisory Council is a collaborative entity seeking to draw feedback from individuals within Guelph Soccer to approach EDI initiatives from diverse, meaningful perspectives. The council will identify and work towards removing barriers in employment, playing, and volunteer opportunities and will encourage promotional practices that will foster a climate of equity. The council will engage with the policies and procedures, activities, and cultures within the organization to proactively implement values of equity and inclusion.

If you or anyone you know is interested, we strongly encourage individuals to self-nominate for this council. The council will have at least 3 and a maximum of 8 members from the community. Applications should be 1-2 pages and should include the following:

  • Name and affiliation with Guelph Soccer (if any)

  • A brief description of interest with the Council

  • A brief description of experience with equity and inclusion initiatives or community involvement

  • Applicants are encouraged to self-identify as a member of an equity-seeking group

All applications should be sent to customerservice@guelphsoccer.ca. Successful applicants will hear directly from the Executive Director. The deadline to submit applications is August 31, 2024.
