Boys Under 16 Ambassador Cup Champions

Congratulations to our Boys Under 16 Red Team for capturing First Place this past weekend at The Ambassadors Cup held in Kingston, Ontario.  The boys had an amazing weekend winning all five of their matches to earn the gold medal!

Boys Under 17/18 Ti'Amo Tournament Finalists

This past weekend, the Guelph Gryphons BU17-18 participated in the Ti'Amo Soccer Tournament in St. Catharines, ON and finished in 2nd place.

The boys began the weekend against the host club, Roma FC, in a tightly contested affair that resulted in a 0-0 draw. In their next group game against Pelham, the boys came out strong and put in quite the effort resulting in a 4-1 win. Goals by Ethan Poole, Krishan Gomes (PK), and Abdul Mahmoud (2). Our next game was against Niagara Falls who put up a valient effort in the first half as the score was deadlocked at 0-0. In the second half, Guelph came out strong and Ethan Poole put up all 3 goals for the hattrick to move the team to the top of the group at the end of day one with a 3-0 victory.

On day two, all Guelph needed was a win against Windsor to move onto the finals later in the day. The team came out hard and had shot after shot but could not put one by the Windsor keeper. In the second half, Windsor caught Guelph on a counter and scored to take the lead with 10 minutes left. This was the spark that Guelph needed as Guelph came back with three unanswered goals by Ethan Poole (2) and John Kitoko to win the game 3-1.

Onto the finals, the Gryphons were up against Sporting FC Toronto, an academy club with ties to Sporting Lisbon, Portugal. The Sporting club had won all their games by shutout so we knew we were up against a solid squad. The first half had chances go both ways but neither team could find the back of the net. In the second half, Sporting opened up the score on a through ball that made the score 1-0. Shortly thereafter, the Gryphons made an ill-timed tackle in the box that resulted in a PK that sporting converted into a 2-0 lead. Sporting adding to their lead about 5 minutes later on a blunder in our box making it 3-0 before John Kitoko replied for Guelph with a brilliant effort to narrow the gap to two goals.

Unfortunately, we were unable to get anymore and the final score was 3-1 for Sporting. The boys played great and have shown tournament over tournament improvement going from 8th in FOTT (0-3-0, 0GF-4GA), 4th in Ancaster (2-1-1, 3GF-3GA), to 2nd in St Catharines (3-1-1, 11GF-5GA), next up for the team is a tournament in Niagara Falls on August 10-12th.
