The Giveback Games

The Giveback Games is a community-based initiative that is designed to promote the continual efforts to give back to our community and raise awareness of community initiatives to grow our athletes on and off the field.

It is Guelph Soccer’s mission to strengthen the community of Guelph through the joy of soccer, and these games are meant to support this mission. The Giveback Games align with the values of the club through fostering the growth of people and the game, providing more learning opportunities for our athletes, and creating fun ways for players to giveback to their community.

The Giveback Games is made up of three founding pillars that we hope to aim all our efforts towards as a Club. The three main pillars of the Giveback Games are Leadership, Athletics, and Community. These pillars support the Guelph Soccer mission, vision, and values, all with the intention of developing people, in addition to being players.

Leadership: At Guelph Soccer, we are committed to encouraging our athletes to be positive leaders in the community by providing them with mentorship opportunities.

Examples:

  • Mentoring other players within the club (supporting teams, attending games with other teams, etc.).

  • Older player going to a younger teams environment to lead.

Athletics: Guelph Soccer provides a safe and fun space for athletes to develop their skills and love for the game of soccer. We use soccer as a way for athletes to connect with peers, meet others with similar passions, and promote a healthy lifestyle.

Examples:

  • Supporting other teams games (watching, signs, cheering, etc.).

  • Volunteering at First on the Turf, Guelph Soccer Day, Coaching recreational teams, skill development, etc.

Community: The Guelph Soccer club regularly supports community initiatives and is continuously looking for new ways we can giveback to our community. We hope to continue to support our community, recognize our teams who participate in community initiatives, and provide more opportunities for our members to be active in community initiatives.

Examples:

  • Giving back to various community-based initiatives (Food Bank, United Way, Hope House Guelph, etc.)

o   Through time and donations

One of the main purposes of these games is to raise awareness and continue to give back to the local initiatives within Guelph. Guelph Soccer is a non-profit soccer club in the City of Guelph established in 1966. With 5,400 members and counting, Guelph Soccer is the largest sports club in the city.
