Guelph Soccer is proud to announce that it has partnered with the local Special Olympics Ontario branch in Guelph Wellington to merge their existing programs. Guelph Soccer’s program previously named ‘Kids Adapted’ and Special Olympics Ontario program called ‘Special Olympics Football Club’ have merged to form the newly named Guelph Special Olympics Soccer.

This new blended program will offer year-round soccer opportunities for people living with developmental and intellectual disabilities of all ages. It will benefit from the shared resources of both long-term community-based organizations by bringing together their coaches, volunteers, equipment and administrative support.

Joe McDowell, the volunteer head coach of the program states, “We are looking forward to starting this partnership. The overall goal of the program is to provide peer interaction and promote a healthy physical lifestyle. We will do this through our love for soccer.”

Sara Orrell, General Manager for Guelph Soccer said, “The team at Special Olympics Ontario and Guelph Wellington have a very collaborative approach. Bringing our two programs together is a great way to pool our resources and offer a program in line with the Quality Sport model. We are looking forward to offering the athletes a great summer season and then the opportunity to play indoor throughout the winter months.”

Registration will launch on April 15 at the Guelph Sports Dome from 4 – 7 p.m. The program will run on Monday nights throughout the summer. Full details will be available on the Guelph Soccer website.
