2019 REP REWIND

2019 was a year of hard work, growth and success for the Guelph Soccer Jr Gryphons. As we head into 2020 we want to take the opportunity to rewind and highlight some of our competitive youth program successes. Thank you for incredible efforts by players, coaches, managers, and parents. We celebrated our wins and learned from our losses.

FOTT 2019

In April we kicked off the season with strong showings at our very own First on the Turf Tournament. With a record number of teams, many board members and over 50 volunteers involved we were thrilled with the overall FOTT experience. Our GU13, BU17, and GU18 teams battled the cold weather to make it to the finals of the first tournament of the year. All of our teams participated in high quality pre-season competition to prepare them for the summer season.

The tournament coincided with the inaugural match of the Canadian Premier League which was a big deal because OUR technical manager, Justin Springer, played 90 solid minutes at centre back for York9 FC. He came by after his game to support and sign his jersey for our raffle.

WRSL Season

7 of our teams competed at the L3 level this season. Our BU13’s started off strong and made it to the Kick-Off Cup Final. Our GU17’s also made it to the finals of the KO-Cup.

Three of our teams managed to pull off a third place finish in the regular season. Our BU13’s finished the season with a 8-6-1 record, our GU13’s recorded 4 wins, 4 ties, and 4 losses, our GU16’s had the most wins of any of our L3 teams: 10-5-1.

Grassroots

We continue to solidify our standing as an excellent grassroots club. The GU8, and BU8 festival teams were the only teams in our region that didn’t miss a single festival at Bristol Park this summer in their first year in competitive soccer. Our registration numbers are encouraging - we had 181 boys, and 130 girls registered. Our U12 teams who are transitioning out of grassroots next season boast some of the best players in our region. Our GU12 gold and red teams capped off an awesome season with two trophies at the Sandusky End-of-Season Tournament.

Beyond all of these stats and accomplishment lies the commitment of hundreds of players and parents, and the dedication of volunteer coaches and managers. Many of our coaches attained their certifications and went above and beyond in the pursuit of furthering their coaching education.

Lastly, none of this would be possible without the support of our rep team sponsors. We’re looking forward to more teamwork and success in 2020!
